Kathleen's art career started over 34 years ago . Frequently dabbling in oils she arrived home one day to find her living room filled with large canvases. Her loving husband, Bruce had put them there with the thought in mind "go big or go home!"
So then it began, commissions started to come in for paintings and murals. Kathleen eventually quit her day job as a registered nurse and started painting full time.
Now, the life of an artist is not always a lucrative one and there is a lot of compromise if you are going to put food on the table. Kathleen became a "painter of all trades" in order to do this. Painting everything from children's books to parade floats that looked like giant cakes in order to make a living while still trying to develop her own unique style and raise a family.
"Your style of art is like a recipe, you are always experimenting and improving on it which is also dependent on your own growth and exposure to your inner and outer worlds. I feel that having to work with so many different mediums and scenarios over the years has stretched me as an artist and exposed me to many different ways of creating 'art' " - Kathleen McPhail
Kathleen is primarily self taught with a sprinkling of education from the Victoria College of art as well as working over seas under Alison Wooly of Florenceart, in Italy . Her paintings are collected all over North America.
Kathleen lives in Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, with her Husband and son.
